Camp Read S'More

This evening, Gary D. Wright Elementary School partnered with Hampshire High School's Avid Program as well as the Ella Johnson Library to offer a family literacy event - Camp Read S'More. The camping and literacy-themed evening featured the Scholastic Book Fair; library card sign-ups by the Ella Johnson Library; mystery readers including Superintendent Heid and Mr. Gary D. Wright; popcorn prepared by Mr. Cappas, and many fun literacy activities including Book Bingo.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Britany Goodman and the HHS Avid students, Mrs. Kathy Kann and GDW Staff involved with the Family and Community Engagement Professional Learning Community, The Ella Johnson Library, Superintendent Heid, Mr. Gary D. Wright, and all of the students, staff, families, and community members who contributed to this event's success!  Keep reading, Wildcats!

GDW Students Recognized By The Illinois Principals Association

This week, Gary D. Wright Elementary School fifth grade students, Benjamin Bennick and Ainsley Bryson, were recognized at the Illinois Principals Association (IPA) Kishwaukee Region's 18th Annual Student Leadership Breakfast.  The IPA Student Leadership Breakfast recognizes tomorrow's leaders today.  Each year, principals are invited to recognize a female and male student from the exiting grade level in his/her school.  This year, we are proud to recognize Benjamin and Ainsley for their leadership within the Gary D. Wright Elementary School learning community.

The breakfast was held at the Crystal Lake Holiday Inn.  Benjamin and Ainsley joined students from Boone/Winnebago, DeKalb, Kane, and McHenry County Regional Office of Education Schools, who were all recognized as leaders within their school communities.  During the breakfast, Benjamin and Ainsley were presented with a certificate, a copy of a book on leadership, and a picture in honor of their recognition.

I would like to congratulate Benjamin and Ainsley on this outstanding accomplishment and also thank the GDW PTO for providing the funds for us to attend this special event.

PTO Culver's Night

This evening was another fun-filled PTO Culver's Night!  GDW Fourth Grade students volunteered to work shifts during the event and they were certainly busy serving all of the Wildcat families and GDW Staff that came out to support our PTO.  I especially enjoyed going through the drive thru, waving at all of our students and families, and being surprised by Kendall Neil bringing my order to the car!  Of course, I couldn't just drive away without taking pictures, parking my car, and stopping inside to have some more fun with everyone!  As a result of the great turnout, Culver's donated a percentage of the sales equaling $467 to our PTO!
