GDW Fifth Graders Recognized by the Illinois Principals Association

This week, Gary D. Wright Elementary School fifth grade students, Jaedyn Ohm and Julian Silva, were recognized at the Illinois Principals Association (IPA) Kishwaukee Region's 17th Annual Student Leadership Breakfast.  The IPA Student Leadership Breakfast recognizes tomorrow's leaders today.  Each year, principals are invited to recognize a female and male student from the exiting grade level in his/her school.  This year, we are proud to recognize Jaedyn and Julian for their leadership within the Gary D. Wright Elementary School learning community.

The breakfast was held at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Rockford.  Jaedyn and Julian joined students from Boone/Winnebago, DeKalb, Kane, and McHenry County Regional Office of Education Schools, who were all recognized as leaders within their school communities.  During the breakfast, Jaedyn and Julian were presented with a certificate, a copy of a book on leadership, and a picture in honor of their recognition.

I would like to congratulate Jaedyn and Julian on this outstanding accomplishment and also thank the GDW PTO for providing the funds for us to attend this special event.

Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month.  Gary D. Wright Elementary School is showing support and raising awareness through a variety of activities, including our school-wide "Autism Awareness is Growing" tree project.  Each student and staff member has the opportunity to contribute to the project by coloring a puzzle piece to be placed on our tree, as shown below.
