'Tis the Season For Holiday Concerts

This week, Gary D. Wright Elementary School hosted our first in-person concerts since 2019!  On Tuesday, our Band, Choir, and Orchestra performed a holiday concert under the direction of Mrs. Henning (choir) and Miss Mitchell (band/orchestra).  On Wednesday evening, our second graders presented "The Reindeer Games", under the direction of Mrs. Henning.  On Thursday, our third grade students presented "Jingle Bell Jukebox", under the direction of Mrs. Henning and Mrs. Senior.  It was a wonderful opportunity to listen to the sounds of the season as presented by our Wildcat musicians.

Hampshire High School's "Pack The Place" Basketball Games

This evening, it was an honor to join students, staff, and families from our Hampshire High School feeder schools as we cheered on the Whippurs during the JV and Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball games! During halftime of the Girls Varsity Basketball Game, I joined Superintendent Harkin, Principal Porsche, and  Principal Nolan as we received a special recognition for our leadership in District 300. What an honor! Also, congratulations to GDW first grader, Olivia Arellano, who won the raffle and received a basketball signed by the HHS basketball teams!  What a great event!

PTO Walk-a-Thon Prizes

Here are a few highlights from this year's PTO Walk-a-Thon prizes, including lunch with the principals, pie the principals, and a ride home from the Hampshire Fire Department.  Thank you to our PTO for coordinating such memorable prize packages and to everyone who supported our PTO Walk-a-Thon!

Principal for the Day - Mr. Schlosser

Hi, Wildcats!  This is Mr. Schlosser, your "Principal for the Day".  I wanted to tell you a little bit about my time being GDW's "Principal for the Day".  I was able to do this because I raised the most money for the PTO's Walk-a-Thon.  I worked hard to get donations and even stood in front of Jewel!

I started my day by brining Dunkin Donuts for the Office Staff.  I was issued an official Staff ID and even got to make my own Pawsome Cards.  I greeted students when they got off of the bus and helped with morning announcements.  Then, we brought Country Donuts to all of the staff members.  After that, I helped set up a raffle for the Wildcat Cart.  Then, I RickRolled the school over the announcements.   I worked with the Aramark Staff to arrange an extra 5 minutes of recess for the fifth graders.  They were so excited when I visited their classrooms to tell them about it.  I was able to assist Mr. Gilbert and played with my Kindergarten buddies during their gym time.  I gave out Pawesome Cards and Golden Tickets when I saw the 3 R's.  I enjoyed a delicious Subway lunch too.  I had a fantastic day!  This is your "Principal for the Day", Mr. Scholsser, signing out!

Thank You, Veterans!

In honor of Veterans Day, Gary D. Wright Elementary School engaged in a variety of activities to learn about Veterans Day while recognizing and giving thanks to those who served and are currently serving in the United States military.  On this day, our students and staff wore red, white, and blue.  We had a special morning announcement.  Students read text about Veterans Day, interviewed relatives who were in the military, created books about Veterans Day, and even gave presentations to the class.  Perhaps most special, this year, we were able to honor Gary D. Wright Elementary School's Third Grade Teacher, Mr. Vital.  Prior to serving as an educator, Mr. Vital served 31 years of active duty in the United States Air Force, where he earned the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.  The students and families of Mr. Vital's Third Grade Class helped to recognize him by decorating his classroom and making heartfelt projects to present to him on Veterans Day.  We are thankful for Mr. Vital and all veterans for their service and their sacrifice.
