Wildcat Night at HHS Football Games

To help kick off Wildcat Night at Hampshire High School's football games this evening, HHS football players, cheerleaders, and staff visited Gary D. Wright Elementary school this afternoon!  Since we were already outside after practicing our fire drill evacuation procedures, the WHIP-PURS greeted their Wildcat superfans and passed out t-shirts, lanyards, and water bottles.  We are so proud of the WHIP-PURS and thankful for their visit as well as the cool swag!  Good luck tonight and throughout the season!  Go WHIPS!

Raised Planting

This spring, Mrs. Graham was awarded a D300 Foundation for Educational Excellence Innovation Grant for her Raised Planting project.  Today, Mrs. Graham enlisted the assistance of GDW students and staff to implement the project by planting many different types of trees in raised planters.  Throughout the school year, GDW students and staff will water and care for these trees.  We are so excited to watch our trees grow!

Out of the Mouths of Wildcats

Today as I was visiting classrooms, Mrs. Lupo's students were discussing a story.  I was very excited to share with the students that I remembered reading that same book when I was in school.  One of our wildcats replied, "That was like one hundred years ago!"  While I assured him that it wasn't quite one hundred years ago when I was in elementary school, in that moment I felt like it could have been!  We definitely exchanged a lot of laughs afterward and took the picture below to capture this very funny memory.

Inspiring Our Wildcats

While visiting classrooms today, I entered a kindergarten room and one of the students immediately caught my eye.  Perhaps this was because of his outfit.  "Are you trying to dress like me?" I asked.  The student gave me a smile and was excited to be noticed for his attire, which featured a neon yellow safety vest.  As a result, I decided that we should most definitely capture this Kodak moment, so we rounded up some of our Morning Supervisors and said"cheese".  It's moments like these that make me smile, knowing that perhaps we have inspired a student to dress up and want to join in on our commitment to safety at GDW.  It's been an amazing first two weeks of school and I look forward to each new day and the opportunities we have to inspire our Wildcats!

First Day of School 2019

On Tuesday, August 13, we celebrated the first day of school and welcomed our Wildcats to the start of another amazing year at Gary D. Wright Elementary School.  We were honored to have Mr. Gary D. Wright himself join in our first day festivities.  During the day we also participated in The R.O.A.R. Show, which was an assembly hosted by Al "The Respect Guy".  During the assembly, we learned more about our school-wide expectations of being respectful, responsible, and ready.  It was truly a pawsome day and we look forward to an outstanding year of building relationships in our learning community while learning, growing, and having fun!

Teacher Inservice Days

Our Wildcat Staff has had fun learning together during our August Inservice Days.  Today, one of our activities provided us with the opportunity to learn how to tie a tie!  For some of us, it was our first experience learning this skill.  We added some challenges for others who were familiar with the concept.  In the end, we all achieved success and enjoyed the experience.  We look forward to welcoming our students back to school tomorrow!  It's going to be an amazing school year!

Kindergarten Kick-Off

Today, GDW welcomed our incoming kindergarten students and their families to our Kindergarten Kick-Off Event.  During Kindergarten Kick-Off, students and their families enjoyed taking a bus ride, eating a snack in the cafeteria, playing on the playground while enjoying Kona Ice, meeting our staff, visiting their classrooms, and learning about kindergarten and the upcoming school year at Gary D. Wright Elementary School! Welcome to the Class of 2032!
