This evening, members of the Gary D. Wright Elementary School Safety Patrol, along with
their sponsors,Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Almodovar, served as pledge leaders at the District 300
Board of Education Meeting. Each morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, we have an incredible responsibility to ensure the safety of each of our 810 students as they enter and exit our school. Students arrive or depart by car or via one of the 16 bus routes assigned to our school. Our student safety patrols play an important role in promoting student safety at our school while upholding and modeling our school-wide expectations of being respectful, responsible, and ready. These students fill a number of duties, including holding doors as students enter and exit the building, monitoring the hallways, holding signs to clearly identify each bus route number to ensure students board the correct bus, making sure students are walking quickly and quietly, and providing guidance and support to our youngest Wildcats in Kindergarten. I asked these students why they decided to apply to be a safety patrol at our school, and I wanted to share some of their responses with you. These students are safety patrols because they want to make sure students are safe, they want to help kids and our school, and they want to set a good example for our students. It was also nice to hear these students say that their experiences as a safety patrol are fun and they enjoy serving in this role. I am incredibly proud of each of the student safety patrols who served as representatives of Gary D. Wright Elementary School and I am grateful for their leadership and service to our school.
