GDW Fifth Grader Named Storyworks' Contest Winner

Congratulations to Allison Hojek from Miss Reisner's fifth grade class for being chosen as a winner of Storyworks' Locust Contest from their December 2017/January 2018 issue.  Allison wrote and submitted an essay explaining what locust swarms were like as well as their effects on people.  Allison's essay earned her a copy of Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson.  We are so proud of Allison for entering this contest and being selected as a contest winner!

Happy Spring Break, Wildcats!

We wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled Spring Break.  School will not be in session March 26-30, 2018.  Please note that all District Offices will be closed on Friday, March 30.  We look forward to seeing our Wildcats back to school on Monday, April 2.

GDW Fifth Graders Buddy Up with Kindergarten Students

Throughout the school year, Gary D. Wright Elementary School's fifth grade students have buddied up with our kindergarteners for various projects and activities.  This partnership has provided many wonderful learning experiences for our students.  This week, Mr. Chau's fifth graders assisted their kindergarten buddies from Mrs. Chmelik's class as they researched animals and their habitats.

PARCCing Ticket Raffle Winners

We are so proud of our third, fourth, and fifth grade Wildcats for their outstanding efforts throughout PARCC Testing.  Following the advice of Staley Da Bear, our students showed perseverance, a positive attitude, resilience, courtesy, and care.  As a result, students earned PARCCing tickets that they entered into a raffle.  The students pictured below won some cool Chicago Bears swag.  Way to go, Wildcats!

Congratulations, Mrs. Kriegel & Mrs. Snarski!

On behalf of the Gary D. Wright Elementary School learning community, I would like to congratulate Mrs. Kriegel and Mrs. Snarski on their recent recognition as nominees for the D300 Foundation For Educational Excellence Distinguished Educator and School Employee of the Year Awards.  Mrs. Kriegel and Mrs. Snarski will be honored at the upcoming Foundation Award Banquet.  We are so proud of these outstanding women and their dedication to our GDW school community!
