Staley Da Bear's PARCC Pep Assembly

This week, Gary D. Wright Elementary School welcomed the Chicago Bears Mascot, Staley Da Bear, to our school.  Staley led a PARCC Pep Assembly for our third, fourth, and fifth grade students.  He reminded us of the importance of getting plenty of sleep, eating healthy foods, being prepared for the test with our chromebooks fully charged and either headphones or earbuds, trying our best, reviewing our answers when we finish, and respecting others throughout testing.  We also got to dance with Staley, which was right up my alley!  To continue the energy and good lessons Staley brought to GDW, we have created special PARCCing Tickets that students can earn throughout PARCC Testing for demonstrating testing expectations including Perseverance, a positive Attitude, Resilience, Courtesy, and Care.  Students can enter PARCCing Tickets they have earned into a raffle, where they can earn Chicago Bears themed prizes including footballs, helmets, jerseys, pillows, blankets, hats, Legos, calendars, folders, notebooks, and more!  Let's do our best on the PARCC Test, Wildcats!

Combined Band Concert

This evening, Gary D. Wright Elementary School's Fifth Grade Band performed with the Fifth Grade Bands from Hampshire Elementary School and Gilberts Elementary School, along with the Sixth and Seventh Grade Bands from Hampshire Middle School.  The concert enabled future Hampshire Middle School band members to join current HMS band members in a combined band concert where all musicians were able to showcase their talents while working collaboratively and having fun.

PTO's Daddy Daughter Dance

This year's Daddy Daughter Dance was another memorable evening for our Wildcat Dads and Daughters.  The evening's theme was "Daddy and Me By The Sea", and featured spectacular decorations including an enormous octopus balloon creation, delicious food, a photo booth, formal pictures, and cool beats for dancing.  A huge thank you to our PTO for creating such a magical evening for everyone in attendance!

Lemonade War Project With Kindergarten & Fifth Grade Buddies

This week, GDW Kindergarten and Fifth Grade students buddied up to create some art projects linked to The Lemonade War!

This Valentine's Day, GDW fifth graders too a page right out of The Beatles' song book and reminded us that "All You Need Is Love"!  What a great way to start our day - with an all school assembly showcasing the musical talents of our fifth graders!

The Golden Tray Award

As part of our school's efforts to maintain a safe and effective learning environment, we have introduced "The Golden Tray Award".  The Golden Tray is a way to acknowledge classrooms demonstrating positive behaviors in the cafeteria.  This week, we would like to congratulate our Golden Tray Award recipients - Mrs. Hankla's Class and Mrs. Fewell's Class!  Keep up the great work, Wildcats!

Happy Snow Day, Wildcats!

We hope all of our students and staff are safe, warm, and enjoying today's snow day!  Our specials schedule will resume on Monday, February 12 with a D1 Day schedule.  Today's C1 Day schedule will be made up on April 2, 2018, which is designated as a snow day make up.  Enjoy the extended weekend.  We look forward to seeing everyone back to school on Monday!

World Read Aloud Day

Today, Gary D.
