PTO's 8th Annual Walk-a-thon

Today we enjoyed the beautiful weather as we gathered on the Hampshire High School track for our PTO's 8th Annual Walk-a-thon.  A huge thank you to the PTO and all of our volunteers for planning, organizing, and implementing this event.  Also, thank you to everyone who supported the event through generous contributions.  The PTO received over $29,000 in donations, which exceeded their fundraising goal.  As a result, it looks like Mr. Cappas and I will be spending a day on the school's roof in the near future...yikes!  For participating in the Walk-a-thon, students earned a new charm to add to their collection, which is pictured below.

Dr. Scarpino Visits GDW

Today, Gary D. Wright Elementary School welcomed a special guest - D300 School Board Member, Dr. Scarpino.  Dr. Scarpino spent the afternoon visiting classrooms and seeing firsthand all of the wonderful things going on at our school.  He even recognized some familiar faces of students and staff who were once at Hampshire Elementary School, where he previously served as Principal!  It is always a treat to have members of our community spend time with us.  On behalf of the students and staff at Gary D. Wright Elementary School, I would like to thank Dr. Scarpino for taking time out of his schedule to spend the afternoon with us.  We look forward to future visits!

Family Math Night

Tonight, GDW families gathered for Family Math Night.  Families spent the evening together playing a wide variety of interactive math games that incorporated the use of dice and cards.  A huge thank you to our PTO for providing the funds in support of this event as well as to the GDW Staff who volunteered their time to coordinate such a fun-filled and educational opportunity for our Wildcat families!  As evidenced by the smiles below, a good time was had by all!

GDW Fifth Grade Field Trip to Camp Duncan

Today, The GDW Fifth Grade Team experienced team-building and outdoor education throughout their field trip to Camp Duncan, located in Ingleside, Illinois.  The photos below feature some of the highlights from their trip.  A huge thank you to our chaperones!

Wildcat Night at HHS Football Games

This Friday, Gary D. Wright Elementary School students and staff gathered together for Wildcat Night to cheer on the Whip-Purs at the Hampshire High School football games.  Prior to the evening, HHS students visited our school and provided a special gift to each of our students.  It was such a special surprise and on behalf of the Wildcats, we would like to thank HHS for your thoughtfulness and generosity!  Go Whips!

Happy 10th Birthday, GDW!

Gary D. Wright Elementary School celebrated our 10th Birthday on September 6, 2017!  To commemorate ten years of educational excellence, students each received a special gift...a charm (pictured below) along with a keychain to display proudly on their backpacks.  Students will be collecting many other charms throughout the school year to celebrate special milestones and accomplishments.  Happy 10th Birthday, GDW!
